The market
Holland is home to many international companies, and a lot of organizations operating worldwide choose The Netherlands as a base for their European or EMEA headquarters (EMEA stands for: Europe, Middle East and Africa). This means that often the multilingual customer service has to be offered to support clients in countries throughout Europe in their own native language. Furthermore, there are a lot of companies specialized in providing customer service as an outsourced solution.
Most customer service centers are located in the major cities in the west of the country, especially in Amsterdam. In all cases, English will be the internal language of communication and you'd support clients in your own native language. Languages most asked for are German, French, Scandinavian languages, Spanish and Italian. Average salaries for customer service jobs range from 1500,- to 2000,- euro's gross per month and most customer service positions are fulltime and permanent.
The requirements
Most companies will ask for people with a mid to higher level educational background, some customer service experience and good communication skills.
So with what kind of profile do you have a good chance of finding employment in customer service in Holland?
- You are educated on mid to higher level, for example BA degree.
- You have a very good command of the English language
- You speak one or more other European languages on native or excellent level
- You must be a citizen of the EU/EER, work permits will not be provided for these salary ranges
- You have good communication skills, are friendly and customer focused
- You have some experience in a customer service related role, for example callcenter agent, shop assistant, salesman etc.
